Security in Ixtapa, Mexico?

My daughter is planning a home exchange with a family in Ixtapa. I wonder about the safety, her husband and children 1, 3 and 5. The family that are changing are in real estate and say it is very safe. Any comments?

Not much has happened in Ixtapa. That said it is a suburb of Zihuatanejo, where the police station was attacked some time ago and five policemen were killed. Subsequently 15 officers out in fear for their safety. Ixtapa as you know was created with the sole purpose of attracting and promoting tourism and nothing much happens there. In my opinion, Ixtapa, 9, when it comes to security. The district has a population of 6,500 and 5,000 hotel rooms. Everyone knows everyone are the safest places to visit.
